My computer is on the lower end of whats acceptable for XP, I've grown weary of some of the problems I've encountered and would like to switch back to 98, the problem? Uninstall instructions tell me to look for an XP only icon in my install/remove programs listing and I don't have one. I've got icons for all the security fixes and updates, but none for just XP alone. This should be easily accomplished but I don't want to ***** things up, any suggestions?

Last I heard, there is no uninstall of XP once installed. The only way to revert back is to reinstall your old OS and restore any data.

I tried to re-install my windows 98 today, the area showing remove software was pale and would not operate. When i tried another way it said that I could not install 98 with the current system and had to go to dos mode, as you're aware there is no dos mode in xp. What now?

If you had the system set up as NTFS file system, you may have issues with removal. You can try the fdisk that is on your 98 boot floppy and it may work. You will be looking for something identified as a non-DOS partition and will want to remove it.

If you have one and can't get it to go away, post back for specifics on how to proceed.

Otherwise, you can fdisk /mbr to pretty well set your hard drive back to new & unused, format, and install Win98.
