    Hi,

I want to replace win XP with Win 98. But my file system now is NTFS for all logic disk (C:, D:). Win XP is on C: . Can I change file system on C: from NTFS to FAT without destroying file on D: ? Thanks!!!

I don´t know of any method to do so, what you can do is fdisk and format another partition (not C. or d: obviously) make that partition FAT32, copy everything from D: to new partition and then you can fdisk d: and c: and install 98 and still have your files :)

only method I know of, I have _never_ heard of a NTFS->FAT32 converter

Sure you can... You will destroy all data on C: though...

There are 3rd party utilities that will convert from NTFS > FAT (AFAIK).

    Here is how!

Use Drive Image (others may work but I have never done it with anything but Drive image).

To do this use only the DOS Drive image disks. Do not install drive image to windows. Not nessesary.

    Make the image.

    Format c: to FAT32.

Restore the image, when Drive Image finds the fat32 it will warn that the file system is different and certain features will be lost. These are the specific features of NTFS. Chose restore anyway!

When you boot back up you will be fat32 but you will have lost settings like say private folders and special permissions but all the rest will be there.

THAT SAID. It is a waste of time to do this if you are going to put win98 on c: in place of XP. You will need to format anyway to do this.

Now if you are going to dual boot and keep both it will allow you to do that. I personally don't reccomend 2 OS's on same drive but it will work. Not enough seperation for me.

Finally you did know that win98 will install on d: didn't you? If you did this it would show up as c: because while running win98 the NTFS would be invisable.

    So what now?????????????
