Hi peeps need to know if there is a way to access system restore if the xp can't start both in normal mode and safe mode. Here is the scenario I tried to boot my xp in normal mode, unfortunately it stuck in initializing the system the one that we see before it gives us the window desktop screen. So i tried to boot in safe mode, it brings me back to OS choice menu.. Any help or suggstion will be greatly appreciated tnx more power to WINDOWSBBS :)

Boot to your XP CD and the recovery console. Try

chkdsk /r then remove CD and boot.

if no luck, back to the CD and the recovery console and

    fixboot

if still no luck, I think you are to the point of needing to try a repair install of XP (install over the existing and if all goes well, you get a working system with all your programs, settings, etc. intact).

Check your memory cards. There is a chance you might have what is known as chip creep. Unplug the computer, open the computer case, and try reseating your memory cards.

From my personal experience the built in XP system restore has failed me may a time. If you can get back into windows back up your data format and reinstall. Have an OS partition and a data partition. Install Windows with drivers and patches, then use ghost or other drive image software make a copy. Burn the copy on to a CD/DVD. Then if you ever have an issue where Windows dies, drop in the disc and restore image.

XP restore can hold and restore viruses and spyware.

Just my 2cents, for your future endevors.
