We use Ghost to image machines - the problem is that we have several platforms and when ghosting from say a Datel to a Gateway it gets stuck in an endless loop - It gets stuck on the " an error has occured, please choose..." It is the Start in safe mode / Start with command promt / Start in Normal Mode / etc. screen.

I replaced the "hal" file(s) as suggested on some sites, but without luck.
Oh ya, I tried a reinstall without any luck.

It never gets out of this screen - justs counts down and restarts.
    HELP!

    Thank you

    Mike

Install a new copy of XP to a different directory (aka a Parellel install). Then you can extract the dump from the machine and do some analysis. If you are looking for help with analysis, theres a thread here on doing some pretty basic stuff.

You should give microsoft a call for assistance with this process then. They can help you get the data and determine what the malfunction is.

UPDATE: I installed the image on another pc and got the cativation screen. I called the automated number and gave them the ID on the screen and was told it's not a valid number. Yes it is. So I guess I have to figure out how to rest the activation.

I've used the keyfinder, replaced files as noted on web pages, etc.

We use Ghost also and have found one needs to make an image for different pc's and different model's of the same brand. Are you trying to use the same image for lets say Dell and Gateway? or A Dell GX 110 and Dell GX 260? They have different componets ;)
