When I start up I get several programs that want to load like photsmart printer and windows install and windows registry files. The photosmart comes from the instalation of a 7150 printer and the registry comes from a registry cleaner I tried to run. I have a lot of registry errors and I find the cleaner programs are commercial programs for sale. While a C drive format would likely solve the problem is there an easier way.
    Thank You.

start->run->msconfig and to the startup tab. Uncheck what you don't want autostarting.

There are some other utilities that offer you more options but this one will do what you want without problems.

If you ever want an app to autostart again, you can just check the entry.

The best (read reasonably effective and completely safe in my experience) free cleaner that will handle lots of the registry trash is CCleaner.

I prefer to use and recommend
    Code Stuff Starter
    As a startup manager.
Not only does it include a process viewer which allows you to see dependencies of running processes and get more information about any startup entry or running process by just double clicking it, but it allows you to not just disable but totally remove any unused entries.

I really do not recommend using registry cleaner programs blindly.
The big problem here is that they work using a database of submitted entries showing what each known program should have placed in the registry. When they say they found an error, they just mean they found somethign which does not correspond to their data base. They fix this by deleting the entry. While this may be good in some cases, in others it just means you have a setting or update or something else which they did not include. Be very careful and review their findings before letting them clean anything and make sure you set them to make a backup so you can restore the entry if it causes problems when you remove it.
