Is there something wrong with the search function today? No matches no matter what I put in.

I made an XP SP3 Hm slipstreamed bootable CD-R using
my XP SP2 Hm edition slipstreamed bootable CD-R

I did a registry edit using info from these forums (I'd search for a link but it doesn't seem to work right now), to point to I386 which I copied from my original XP SP1 Hm Edition CD to C:\I386

I do have my XP SP3 folder (I used to make slipstream) on my HD. The I386 is also located in the folder, and also in the contents I burnt to CD.

Can I replace the I386 currently located C:\I386 with the new I386 and put it C:\I386 Do I need to fiddle with the registry point it to the same place again? I don't think I need to, but just wanted to check.

When SP3 was first released I created a slipstreamed CD but I’ve never tested it so I don‘t know if it works. This was before Arie’s piece on the subject.

The two inputs I used were an SP1 Home CD slipstreamed with SP2 in about 2004 and the SP3 downloaded file.

There is some good information here How to Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 3 to Create an Integrated XP Setup Disk with SP 3 (howtohaven.com)

EDIT: I've just found my old post and I did test it, here http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-xp/73363-slipstreaming-sp3.html It was the Vista SP1 slipstreaming that I didn't (and still haven't) tested.

I made a slipstream XP SP3 bootable CD. I didn't have a problem with that.
I just wanted to know if I run SFC now (post SP3 installed) should I have the reg key pointed to the I386 created when making my slipstream CD.

Sorry, I seem to have misunderstood your post.

I ran sfc but as the machine is behaving itself the CD wasn’t called for but in the past I have just hit retry when asked for the XP Professional CD. Also, I’ve found I needed to change the registry pointer(s) after changing drive letters.

Perhaps you could create an error situation by renaming a "˜minor’ system file then try running sfc to determine what is needed? By "˜minor’ I mean a program in \Windows\System32 like notepad.exe or winver.exe, i.e. change the extension to .old.

Don’t forget to reset the program to its .exe extension.

Thank you for the suggestion but I have a couple of fires I'm already working on. I'll leave the testing for some other time. I think I'll just put a copy of the I386 file from my slipstreamed bootable SP3 CD, in the C:\ drive and move the
pre SP3 I386 file to another location.

Hi Alicia, I have run my sfc /scannow twice since making the slipstreamed SP2 and it's worked perfectly OK. If i386 is in C:\ it seems to be correct. Neil.:D
