I have an IBM 300PL 6GB HDD with about 500Mb free space XP Home edition, SP1 installed. Having read somewhere that SP2 was 175Mb I said oh **it I will need a new hard disk. You see SIZE is important.
I emailed "Charlesvar" and got this reply.
The download update file from AU is 70 to 75 MB's.

My Windows size on disk went from 1.52 Gig's to just under 2.0 Gigs.

After the SP2 install, it creates a uninstall file in \WINDOWS\ which the SP2 Add/Remove applet would invoke to uninstall SP2 called $NtServicePackUninstall and is 361 MB's. This file can be burned out and saved in case of need. The Ad/Remove entry also will go away, but will come if the uninstall file is reloaded.

You should post this question on the Board and my answer to it. Get other points of view.

    Regards - Charles

Paul, Forgot to add that there are other $NtUninstall files in Windows taking up a lot of space - can be treated the same way.

And if the SP2 install file is from AU, that will "disappear" after the install.

    Regards - Charles
