I KNOW THERE ARE SO MANY THREADS OUT THERE THAT COULD ANSWER THIS QUESTION, SO MANY DIFFERENT ONES TO FOLLOW, WHY NOT JUST CREATE A NEW THREAD

ONE OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS FOR XP USERS

I change my welcome screen to Classic

I select (Install updates and Shutdown)
The only update I had to install was Definition Update for Win defender

    Well install update worked

    mouse did not freeze

But came to a BLUE screen NO I DO NOT MEAN BSOD, RATHER

This is what I mean, http://silverrylle.eastkingdom.org/images/cr/background.jpg

And it just stood there, I kept the computer running for like 10 to 15 minutes

    no (processing) light on

Sometimes, it will shut down in 4 minutes
Who knows why it did not this time

I had a similar problem not long ago I did all the things that MS recomends a
Repair Install and you name it Windows went through Saving your Settings and to Shutting Down and that was it it would not go any further I had to do the 4 second power off. In the end after many hours I was trying to use my InCD and it would not work I re-installed Nero and all my problems were solved.
Meaning look at your installed software the problem could be there.
