XP SP2 affects scanner ops

    Hi All,
    Some advice please... After installing SP2 (Athlon/XP Pro) the scanner (only) on my Epson multifunction print/scan (RX620) intermitantly fails to operate, returning dialog "...cannot communicate properly with scanner... ". I've tried different USB ports and cards (USB 1 & 2).
    Since the problem first emerged I've also completed a scheduled format & reinstall of the system, but the problem is still evident on my now clean system.
    I've no idea how to chase this problem down and have temporarily resolved it by 'system restore' to point before SP2 installation. Any ideas please, or perhaps just live without SP2?
