    XP Celeron 2.20:

The PC suddenly shuts down 8-9 hours after start-up. This happens every day.

NO POWER PROBLEM...AS OTHER MACHINES ARE PLUGGED INTO SAME STRIP. Not overheating.

    Windows error report:
    winlog.exe
    szAppName: winlog.exe
    szAppVersion: 0.0.0.0
    szModName: TimeSync.DLL
    sz ModVer: 0.0.0.0
    Offset: 0004b1ef

Can't delete or repair TimeSync.DLL as programs evidently use it.
I think it's a DLL by a Swiss company. They do not respond to questions.

    Thank you,
    Carl

timesync.dll is a file that's part of the discontinued Starfish Sidekick software. It may be listed in your add-remove programs.

    Thanks for the prompt reply!

No. Starfish Sidekick is not listed in my add/remove programs. I ran a complete search and TimeSync is not listed...though it's listed on a list of .DLL's.

Is there a way I can delete it? As I mentioned I was not allowed to delete it from the DLL list.

    Thanks again!
    Carl

Try booting in Safe Mode to delete it.

It's probably loading when you start the computer. Use Start > Run > msconfig > Startup and see if it's listed. If so, uncheck it.

Or it could be loaded as a Device in which case you would have to disable it from Device Manager.

Goto Device Manager->View->Show Hidden Device. Now search for your file in Non Plug and Play Drivers & disable it. Reboot.

Tony: Tried safe Mode boot. It did not appear.

RSINFO: Tried what you suggested. It was not listed.

It still is in the ActiveX and DLL list (couldn't copy /paste the list).

    THANK YOU BOTH!
If you have other suggestions I'd appreciate them.

Try using the Microsoft (SysInternals) free program called Autoruns.
You'll be able to uncheck it and prevent it from loading if it exists.

    Tony-
    Wow...nifty program!!! I found it!

I copied and pasted the 3 related lines. 2 are indented.
I unchecked TimeSync but cannot delete it (see pop-up message).

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
igfxcui igfxsrvc Module Intel Corporation c:\windows\system32\igfxsrvc.dll
    timesync c:\windows\system32\timesync.dll

    When trying to delete:
"Error. System cannot find the file specified "

I'll shut down and re-boot. After that I'll have to wait the 8-9 hours.

    Thank you so much!!!
Where do I send the single malt Scotch?

I must test the PC first by letting it run past the 8-9 hour mark a couple of days.

    Then I will mark resolved.

IF IT WORKS I'LL BE A HAPPY CAMPER!!!

    Thanks-

Just uncheck the last line, keep the Intel line.
