Have you scanned your system files? Start/Run and type sfc /scannow You will need the XP disc in your CD drive. If you have SP2 installed and haven't a slipstreamed SP2 disc, then you will need to reinstall SP2 after the scan and replace.

What do you mean by reboot? Does it blue screen and restart? Does it drop all the way back to a black screen and reload xp? Just the start button and desktop reload?
Do you have sp2? did this problem occur before you installed it?

    Joe,

No blue screen. System just reboots, black screen, back to bios check just like you hit the restart button. Yes SP2 installed. I've had some strange problems with this machine after SP2. Major problems with HP USB printers. I will try the SFC /scannow and see what that does.
    Thanks all, love this site.

    Paul,

Ran the sfc command and the problem still is there. Not a big deal since this is one of my backup systems, but sure would like to find out what is going on.
