When i first installed the xp beta in 2001 I had problems with my CD/R drives.
All my current files were changed to read only and I still can't get them changed.
I tried copying them to a hard disk and to another CD but they always come out read-only.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

When you copy files to a cdr they are always given the read only attribute (using any OS) . A way to avoid this is to use a packet writing program like Roxios Direct Cd or Neros InCd and use cdrw discs instead of cdrs' . For those that you already have on a cdr you can copy them to a folder on your hard drive. Then open the folder in windows explorer, click edit>select all and then right click on one of the files, choose properties and uncheck the box next to read only. This should change them all at once. Then copy them back to a cdrw using some type of packet writing.

Files copied from CDR/CD-RW to the hard drive or to another CD will always have the Read Only attributes.

Once you copy back to the hard drive, right click on the file/folder and select Properties and then uncheck the Read Only attribute. This is not just XP related and applies to all MS operating systems.

Apologies if I have misunderstood your question.
