    I am using XP Professional and from time to time used the "Tools" to defrag my hard drive. I have just found them to all be gone! I selected Start > Programs > System Tools and I get > Empty!! Where did they go and how do I retrieve them? I do have the auto upgrade from Microsoft, have they removed them for some reason? Anyway, I do want the tools back. Can anyone tell me how to achieve this? :confused:

    First
    Make sure you are properly logged in on your/a "admin rights user" account.

    Second
    Is the "system tools" folder still there (listed in the startmenu)?
    Open your startmenu runline and type in "system tools ". Is this folder empty?
    Right click on the startbutton and choose "explore ". {Uncustomized} it should open in the startmenu folder, scroll to programs>Accessories>system tools...is this also empty?

    Third
    What ya' got in the *:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools folder?

    Fourth
    Check to see if these have been dragged somewhere Else.
    Do a find for some of the *.lnk to the tools???(replace the * with the name of tool such as "disk defragmenter.ink ", "disk Cleanup.lnk "...etc)
    NOTE*make sure your folder options are set to allow the viewing of system and hidden files.

    =======
    Point being if the folder isn't where it should be and has been dragged (misplaced), it can be put back.

    If shortcuts are gone on one user account but found in another, they can be copied and put in yours.

    Using a file find, you may have to put new shortcut's in the folder.
