Why is the OEM version so much cheaper than the Retail Box version of XP? I was told that once the OEM version is loaded with a particular motherboard, you can't load it to another system with a different motherboard. I found out that moving an OK HD to another motherboard system & visa versa doesn't really work unless you re-install the OS, so I need an OS I can load on two different motherboard systems. Any help appreciated .. j

With an OEM version, strictly speaking only supplied to accredited system builders, support for the OS has to come from the builder, not Microsoft, hence the lower price on the 'open market'. In addition system builders get a hefty discount.
In which case you will need 2 copies of the OS - you are licenced to install a copy of XP from a single CD onto a single computer only. While you will be able to install on another you will not be able to activate on the second computer.
