Thanks in advance for any help.

I have Windows XP Pro. Friday, it started acting strange, programs quit responding, and Norton System works 2003 would not even load.

I tried searching and am unable to find an answer.

OK, I figured I would just reinstal everything. I got hard drive wiped out, started to reinstall. I will list the errors:

All of these it said were not able to copy, or were not copied correctly:

    msi.dll
    regedit.dll
    ntshrui.dll
    wmvcore.dll
    msuni11.dll
    wmpcore.dll
    wmploc.dll
    dsound3d.dll
    kodak_dc.icm
    mf.sys
    mshtml.tlb
    msihnd.dll
    oembios.bin
    qedwiped.dll
    sysmain.sdb
    pro_seg4.swf
    pro_seg5.swf
    wind_w.chg

I continued to load, and finally got mostly installed. Then it started to boot like as follows -- The "Microsoft Windows XP" screen with the little "Bar" the flashes back and forth comes up....... The screen goes blank for 30 to 60 seconds..... a very quick flash of a blue screen(that appears to possibly have some text on it) and then it just is like I hit reset button.

After this, it brings up window to start in safe Mode or Normal. It will boot in Safe Mode to the Desktop.

I thought maybe SP 2 would help. It installed fine in Safe mode, and also in regular booting from CD (tried both ways), but it still does the same thing.

I sure hope someone can clue me in as to what to do. This is the computer from work, and I have been trying a good part of today to get it up and running for tomorrow (like that will be happening without a miricle..lol)

Thank you so much! Mark

Did you delete the partition. Create a new partition and then reformat the new partition?

    Mark,
set the BIOS back to the setup defaults and save and exit. Disconnect all cards and external hardware except those needed for booting. Graphics card should be the only internal card.

    Thanks Paul,

Did as you said. Same thing.

I have been doing some digging here. Someone in one post said something about a bad monitor in a similar situation. Could that possibly be my trouble?

I do not have another monitor here to try, other than the one I am on now, and it it a pain to get unhooked. I have one at work I could bring home.

Any ideas from anyone...just toss them at me.. :)

    Thanks, Mark

    I found this interesting reading:
    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...t%20catologs.%22&num=50&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wg

or this (bad or lose ram stick)
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823303

Check bios Time, copy cd to harddrive and run the install or repair install from the harddrive.
    http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

You said you can get into windows using safemode have you tried running sfc /scannow.

Due to the late hour or I should say early hour since it's 4 o'clock in the morning for me, I just can't trust my brain cells to function clearly. I have to many possibilities running through my head. I shall leave this in the better hands that are already trying to help you through this. To many cooks.. yada yada. This cook may spoil the broth. Going to bed now. Good night and good luck.

    Solved!

    Thanks for all your assistance!

It ended up being bad RAM. I decided since it was only a month old, I would give it back to the guy who built it for me since I did not get anywhere over the weekend. Fortunately I have a back-up computer at work I loaded everything on for now.

Get this though, I have a computer I built out of some spare parts lying around, stupid thing is doing the same thing. It has SD RAM, I switched it with another stick, worked fine. Guess when it rains it pours.... lol

    thanks again!

    Hi Mtbitt,

Yup, bad or lose ram will get ya; every time. This is the second thing I always check when an install goes belly up. The first thing is, I always copy CD and install from the harddrive. Generally, I work with older computers that have some miles on them. Using the power of positive thinking, I would try the CD install first. I've had so many installs flop using this method and work flawlessly from a harddrive install that the law of averages have convinced me that I would save time just copying it to harddrive and running it from there. It has become my standard practice and method of choice. It works for me.

I'm glad this problem is solved and behind you. Thanks for the update! :)
