I consider myself an expert  but I'm damned if I can find any answer for this in the MS Knowledge base.

In previous versions of Windows prior to XP, the Programs drop down menu only showed the most recently used items, making for a much smaller dropdown menu. XPPro however insists on showing all the items regardless of how long since I used an item and now my menu almost fills the screen. Can anyone tell me how to show just the recent/commonly used items like W98 etc used to ?

    Regards

    G

I'm running XP pro under Classic view - the following may be different under Luna .....

Right click on Task Bar > Properties > Start Menu > Customise - scroll down to 'Use Personalised Menus' and check the box.

If you can't find this in Pro switch to classic view at the Start Menu stage above - set and then revert to Luna.

Yes, only available under Classic Start menu. Changing it in Classic & switching back to XP default will revert back to showing all.

The answer would seem to be use the Classic Start menu under Luna then the option to use Personalised menus is available.

    Arie and PeteC--
Using XP Home, I am using Luna, and found that the Task Bar > Properties > Start Menu > Customise window allows me to get rid of all the left side items except All Programs. I do not however have "Use Personalized Menus" so do not know what else I am missing.
Unfortunately the size of the Start window has only decreased in height, not width, since All Programs still is in the left side.

    Jim

Have you tried using the Classic Start Menu with Luna? Width is halved and any of the programs in the upper part can be deleted.
