    Hello every one.

I have two hard drives factory installed in my Computer.

Hard drive #1 ( 160 gig ) being the hard drive I keep my Operating system and all programs running on.

Hard drive #2 (250 gig ) is my storage device. Music / and baby pics.

A couple of weeks ago I reformatted drive #1 and using my resource CD from Alien Ware I made a 40 Gig empty spot on my #1 drive then reinstalled windows into my NTFS partition.

Then I installed a second Operating system into my empty section of drive #1 ( not sure if this is important or not but I am running an XP / Ubuntu duel boot )

From the begging XP has not "seen" Drive #2. If I look under "My Computer" only one hard drive is listed and that is the one with Windows on it.

If I go to device manager then there are two drives listed there.

on the Windows web page I was told to do two things

This told me that Drive C was Healthy and active. The confusing part is it also told me that Drive #2 ( it wasn't named but was the right size ) was also healthy and active

The second thing I was told to do was
All I have is a resource CD from Alien so I used a Copy of XP a friend left me barrow put that in and did as I was told.

    My response was
I would really like to start using windows based programs on some of the things on Drive #2 so I am really hoping some one has some really good news for me.

I would also like to stress ( and yes this also really confuses me.) Ubuntu is using off of Drive #2 Wonderfully.

I don't know if I have provided enough information so please let me know what you need to hear.

Thank you for any responses in advance I do appreciate it.

    explain just what you mean.
Did you use Ubuntu to make a new partition on hdd #2 ?

    Is hdd #2 NTFS or FAT32 ?

Boot into XP and go to Disk Management- right click on hdd #2 partition, can you select assign drive letter ?

After reinstalling XP but before Ubuntu did you boot into XP and check hdd #2 ?

I used the XP resource CD to make one partition 110 Gigs ( NTFS )on Drive # 1. Leaving the other 40 Gigs unallocated. On the unallocated part of Drive # 1 I installed Ubuntu.

I never did anything to Drive # 2, After having installed windows, I promptly installed Ubuntu, never checking ( didn't think I had to ) that windows saw all my drives.

After Having Ubuntu installed I started playing with it and was using things off of drive # 2 ( Music / Pics ) Later on I went back to reinstall some of my windows programs and realized I couldn't find drive # 2.

Drive # 2 is in the original NTFS format it came in.

Under disk management i never saw the option to select a drive letter. just for verification you are talking about this, right?
Any other information I can provide? this really makes no sense to me.

Thank you for trying to help me

Not currently on a XP machine so do not know if your run command displays the same or not. here's the steps at what I'm talking about, may be the same display. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...ll/proddocs/en-us/sag_diskhowto.mspx?mfr=true

Once you get the drive to display in XP you might have to take Ownership of files. (do not know how)

You do have at least XP SP1 update ? If you only have XP update it first.
