Well I recently got a intel motherboard with a celeron D 2.8. this is a new PC i put together. I went into the bios and enabled everything like onboard Lan and then i went to Install XP. After installing XP, i installed the onboard lan ethernet controller. and installed the chipset and everything. but when it turns on, it saysl limited or no connectivity. I tried using the winsock fix but it still hasnt worked. I tried installing another nic card and it continues to do the same, i even got a USB nic card and continues to do the same. The PC is directly connected to the DSL modem, i tried resetting that but still no luck, Anyone have any ideas?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS

Can you please confirm that you connect to the modem via a network rather than USB.

This sounds like a cable problem to me. Check that the network cable is connected securely at each end. If possible try a different cable.

Are you using a straight-through cable or cross-over?

Are you sure that their isnt anything wrong with the dsl signal itself ? unlikely but check to see if their isnt a problem with your isp, but I think it is more todo with your pc/dsl modem/router than an isp fault but you never know...

How have you configured your IP address? Is your modem acting as a DHCP server? "limited or no connectivity" can be the error you get when the NIC hasn't been able to assign itself an IP address.

If in doubt, do an ipconfig /all and post the result here.

Figured it out! Stupid Westell Modems. I realized the modem does not reset itself right away or if i unplig it for 5 mins and plug it back in it will connect so i just unplugged it for one minute and then plugged it in my pc and turned it off for a few hours and started it back up, i guess that gave it time to assign the pc the address and everything
