    Hi,
I have a home network at home. On both PC's, I am using windows XP professional. I just used a cross over cable to connect both computers. The one which is connected to DSL modem has 2 NIC's. One going to DSL and other going to client computer.
Problem is that Internet is very slow at client side. There is not much length difference betwwen the 2 computers (just 5 feet). Some times, it not even open some web sites and becomes too slow.

Any know how can I boost the internet speed at client side.

    Thanks in advance.

You might want to try upgrading the computer that is directly connected to the internet. Another suggestion is maybe upgrading to a firewire PCI card, it should add some speed if you know how to network them.

Nasir - the first thing I'd try is forcing the NICs that connect the two PCs to the same speed and duplexing settings. If you are only interested in internet, you can go with 10Mbps half-duplex since this is the slowest the cards can be set and is still many times faster than the internet with any DSL connection you'd have at home.

If that works and you want to have network traffic between the two PCs (independent of any internet traffic) faster, set them both to higher speeds until you max out at 100Mbps full-duplex or until they quit talking.

Both are probably set to Auto now and may have trouble synching speeds which can cause the sorts of problems you are seeing.

If that doesn't work, post back. Provide some additional information if you do though.

    - is your crossover cable factory or home made?
    - on both PCs do the following and post the contents of the resulting text files
    ... start~run~cmd
    ... ipconfig /all > c:\ipconfig.txt
