Hey i just upgraded my PC from Win98SE to Windows XP Pro...

problems started with the setup program all went well until Setup restarted my pc and then it froze on "Detecting Hardware Config" screen.

I removed both my network cards and tried setup again, this it ran no problems...

    =-=-=--=-=-=-=
reason for the multiple network cards

    1.Internal network (peer 2 peer)
    2.Broadband Internet Connection

Windows XP setup then ran to completion without any error.
Once it was all complete. i installed the networks, one at a time.

Windows then began to fail, again when it had both network cards in. but it will boot fine no matter which card is in, on its own.

When windows is starting, my bios screen clears, i get the prompt to boot form CD, then the screen goes blank and i have to use the reset button to get the system to work again...

    please help some one....

    Cheers in advance

    Welcome to WindowsBBS. :)

Other than moving nic cards to different slots, which may or may not resolve your problem, have you considered a Router/Switch/Hub. This would reduce your nic requirement to one per machine. HTH :)

    Kind of cards

What kind of NIC's are you using ?
Some 3com or lantech NIC don't work well combined, especialy in xp (if you have older cards). Check microsoft compatibilty list for more info (somewhere at www.microsoft.com)

    Greetings,
    Job

Hey guys, thanXz for the suggestions.

I sorted it in the end.. I found that turning off uneeded IRQ's in the bios, fixed this problem...

    Thanks again :D
