ive been having trouble with some hardware on Win 7 64bit.

so i started thinking what about XP mode, can it be used to install hardware that doesnt play very well with Win 7.

PS PC in question has no internet also i reformatted after multiple BSODs thats why im posting in general discussion not in hardware.

    thx for any input.

No, XP Mode is to enable you to run software that will not run in 7 directly. XP runs in a virtual machine using virtual hardware, e.g. the graphics are SIS and your graphics card on the host computer will not be seen/used. OTH hard drives, optical drives on the host computer can be accessed from XP mode.

Sounds like you upgraded from another OS - XP?. Did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before installing 7? - this would have told you what was and what was not compatible (hardware & software) with Windows 7.

Remember you need x64 drivers on an x64 OS. If they are not available for your hardware try the Vista x64 drivers, if available.

Checkout hardware, etc compatability here ....

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I think XP mode is only for software. Your hardware just needs drivers that are compatible with your OS. Seeing the specs for the computer in question my help.

im pretty sure my hardware is fine, its that stupid D-link wireless adapter I tried (i think) It was a pain and a half finding a win7 driver for it. All the trouble started when i installed but the trouble remained even after System restore.

ill run the compatibility center once i find away to connect to the internet.

back to XP mode, i was counting on the windows hardware profile thing and XP modes "virtual drivers "

no word on the wireless adapter on compatibility site so i either got as bad driver or the hardware isn't compatible.

@ PeteC I found win7 64 bit drivers for all, and that was a clean install.

@ markmadras my hardware is listed in my profile
    2 small changes
Im trying to use the D-link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter to connect to a wifi hotspot.
and my monitor is a samsung 32" TV model #LA32B350F1XSV

I'm not at all sure that you can do that on 7 - it is designed for use on Vista, XP prior to upgrading.
