Hi, Richard. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

I am not familiar with your issue but I Googled windows xp media center "Digital TV" has "no sound " which, after doing some further searching, led me to the following stab at a possible fix.
    • "Windows Vista & XP Media Center Support Community" forum thread: No Sound on TV after SPDIF

If that thread seems to apply to you, read the entire thread because there are some other tips/suggestions/tweaks given later in the thread.

Please let us know whether the link above helps or not. If you are successful, please provide details so others with the same or similar problem might benefit.

If that doesn't help, more details please about your hardware/software configuration might help us help you. EVEREST Free Edition is handy to use to copy/paste system hardware specifics into forum messages. If you want any help with doing that, please let us know.

    Thank you.
I think the thread was more to do with using an external digital amp, however I did try turing spdif off but it didn't help.
I wasn't able to paste my hardware specifics as there were too many characters.

I have pasted (what I thought to be relevant) hardware specifics below, how am I able to paste the whole report?.

    Thanks for your help

    Richard.

Thanks for the hardware info. I think the EVEREST info you pasted is what we need to get started. Good work! :)

I'll do some poking around to see what I can find.

Did you try the suggestion in post #7 of that thread?
I don't know where you turned SPDIF off but I am guessing you would need it to be ON there as well.

    Thanks.

I don't have those 2 icons in fact I could find a "sound reality control panel" I tried turning this off/on but it made no difference.

I checked the audio properties & everything looks normal, under the hardware tab it lists a few audio codecs (sigma Tel, Avermedia, Audio Codecs & Legacy Audio Drivers). If I go into their properties they all apear to be working properly.

    Thanks,

    Richard.

Are you trying to use HDTV?

If so, then this thread link seems to indicate you might "have to resort to watching Standard Definition signals in order to hear the audio. "

I'm sorry. I am not familiar with digital TV stuff so please don't flame me if I seem clueless. (I already know I am. I don't even own a TV. :p) I'll help all I can though. I enjoy trying to refine my Google skills. :)

    Hi guys,
I haven't used SPDIF, but my motherboard has square output(?) socket for it and I am quite sure you don't need to use SPDIF to run digital audio, it is just another method of audio output. I get sound when I am running HD TV and I am not using SPDIF.

"Legacy Audio Drivers" sounds wrong. I think you should have a listing for the "Audio Adapter Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - High Definition Audio Controller ". You should look on the drivers disk that came with the computer and run the install for the audio drivers or look up the drivers for your model at the Sony website.

I can't see how the spdif should change things.

I reintalled the audio drivers for my laptop off the sony site, & retuned media centre back onto an analogue signal, it played OK, but if you record, then the playback still lacks the audio!

Its a shame as I dont have a freeeview box, or anything to record with & was expecting to be able to do both.

I looked at the FAQs at Avermedia, but could not see anything related.
    http://support.aver.com/faq.php?categoryid=1

Check if there is a troubleshooting section in the Avermedia files or explore the software/drivers disk.

Back to basics? Uninstall the Avermedia software and drivers, remove the device and start the install over again (follow the instructions to the letter).

Sigmatel is the audio "control panel ", just consider that it may be having an influence. Check settings in the Sigmatel program as well and if you did not look for them at Sony, check for updates. If you have other audio "controllers" they may be having an influence.

Under the Windows Audio listing it says:
Why Analog and can you change it?

You will need to read through and follow the manual carefully (easier said than done  :D ). Check settings all along the line.

Check if some of your hardware does not (easily) meet the specifications. It may not be able to physically perform the required operation.
