My friend was playing around and repartitioned a drive thru the Manage. He ******* up the size of the partition and fixed it, but now the drive is "read only" !!!

Took the drive out to a Linix box, repartitioned and formated and the drive is STILL "read only "! How can this be fixed???

    TIA!!!

Since you have used Linux, I presume you have formatted it with FAT/FAT32 file system. Try to run chkdsk /f on the drive.

Drive was in XP and listed as unknown in the Manager. He partitioned there in NTSF/gave it a drive letter and the the disk became "read only ". He moved the drive to the Linix box and deleted/repartitioned and formatted (in the Linix box) and the drive was still "read only ".

    That is the steps taken...

Go to the drive manufacturer's website and download their disk utilities to check it out and, if possible, perform a low level format.
