Hi guys, first post on the forum, ive searched high and low for an answer to this problem , so far to no avail.

It all started with AVG crashing, this turned out to be caused by a trojan. I had to completely uninstal all virus and firewall software and carry out an online web based scan to try to remove the infection, this only got rid of part of the virus, but got my pc back in a workable state, enough for me to instal zonealarm with a virus scanner to remove the virus completely.

So the virus had gone, and pc seemed ok, however i have been left with a wireless network issue, although the signal from my router is being picked up, i cant connect to it, i have an exclamation mark and a message stating limited or no connectivity.

What have i tried to resolve the issue?

Well ive followed numerous threads on the same issue, i downloaded winsockfix on my laptop and tried running it on my pc, but it wouldnt work as no internet connection.

Tried standard repair connection through windows, to no avail.

turned off router, waiting 5 mins then turned on again. Also Reset router completely all this did was lock all hardware in my house off the network until i logged back in to my isp settings using a ethernet cable!

Eventually carried out advance restore on my system using HP tools, deleted everything and restored to factory settings using partition on my hard drive, problem remains.

Today ive tried running sfc but initially system was asking for xp disk (which i didnt get with the pc) so i followed instructions to alter registry so it looks for a file called i386 on my c drive, this seemed to work as it didnt ask for the cd rom, however it didnt resolve the issue at all.

Has anyone got any suggestions for me before i launch the whole thing out of the window?!

    Thanks in advance.....

    Welcome aboard :)

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
    • Check "Include All Files" option.
    • Press "Scan ".
    • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
    • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

    Looks good.

Did you try ethernet cable to see if wired connection works?
Do you have any errors in Device Manager?

Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

    Checkmark following boxes:
    • Report IE Proxy Settings
    • Report FF Proxy Settings
    • List content of Hosts
    • List IP configuration
    • List Winsock Entries
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result.

There is something wrong with your settings because Default Gateway value is missing.

Make sure, your computer is set to obtain IP address automatically.
    1. Go Start>Settings>Control Panel (Vista/7 users: Start>Control Panel)
    2. Double click Network Connections (Vista/7 users: Network and Sharing Center)
    3. Vista/7 users - From the list of tasks on the left, click Manage network connections.
    4. For a wired network connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties.
For a wireless network connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then select Properties.
    5. From the General tab (Vista/7 users: Networking tab), click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), make sure it is checked, and then click Properties
    6. Click Obtain an IP Address Automatically, and then click OK.

    If that doesn't work...
Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 1 minute. At the same time disconnect ethernet cable as well.
    Reconnect everything.
    Restart computer.

If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem.

    If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
    cmd
Click OK (in Vista and 7, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /registerdns
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    net stop "dns client "
    net start "dns client "

    Restart computer.

    If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista and 7), type in:
    cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

    At Command Prompt, type in:
    netsh int ip reset reset.log
    Hit Enter.
    Type in:
    netsh winsock reset catalog
    Hit Enter.

    Restart computer.

    If that doesn't work...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml (doesn't work in Vista and 7)
    Restart computer, and check again.

    If that doesn't work...
Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF) (doesn't work in Vista and 7):
    http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix#Mirrors.2Fdownload_locations.2C_and_articles

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file. Likely not!

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
    Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page.

Here, one at a time, do the below:

    Reinstall BITS
    Reinstall Windows Firewall
    Repair Permissions
    Reset networking

Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

    Restart computer.

Ok so far none of the above have worked :-/, my pc didnt come with the xp disk, b ut i have got a backup partition on the hard drive and all xp files are located in a file called
i386, when running the reinstall BITS part it was saying setup could not copy the following files :

    qmgr.dll,
    qmgrprxy.dll
    bitsprx2.dl
    bitsprx3.dl

although i browsed and found the files i couldnt open them? I take it these files should be safe in the backup section on my partioned hd? If so how do i copy them over?

I would investigate the firewall. Is it Windows Firewall or one supplied by a security suite? If you have a specialised firewall like ZoneAlarm, tell it to disconnect from the internet and then lose track that you have done so, you will have no way of connecting to the internet unless you tell the firewall to re-connect. (My daughter gave me a right problem when she did that.)

Do you run more than one antimalware suite? Only run one at a time.

If you uninstall a third party firewall, it should hand control back to Windows Firewall automatically, but Windows should alert you if no firewall is enabled.

anyone got any ideas? How do i restore these missing dll files if thats what the problem is? Why did my hp computer not restore the missing files when i carried out the advanced format / recovery? Why didnt the cmd / sds recover the files when it ran?

This is driving me nuts, stupid computer manufacturers selling computers without the operating system disk! Causes nothing but a headache!

Sorry for the delay, I had some other work to do.

I suggest checking with HP if they'd send you an OS CD, although you'd have to pay.

Maybe someone else has experience with OEM PC's and attempting a repair install, I haven't (and never will). I spend a bit more & get a retail OS so that I'm more flexible.

I managed to get hold of a disk but my system said it wasn't the disk that came with the system and also it was older than the installed version, kinda run out of ideas now, looks like I'll have to buy a new system
