I don't know how this happened, but after I updated the XP Service Pack 3, my OS started using XP Media Center Edition version and now I'm having several "mickey mouse" issues with my pc.

I removed all that I could find under "add/remove programs" but when I reboot, I still get the XP Media Center Edition at startup. I have my cd that came with the original XP home, but don't want to have to reload this because then I "ll have to do all the many updates again.

    Does anyone have ideas??

    Thanks much!

From what I see, for some reason, Windows seems to think that you need the service pack for Media Center.

Have you made changes in the past that may lead it to think that way?

Was the system original "built" as a Media Center system, and since then a standard version of Windows XP was installed?

When you made an installation selection, was it for a Media Center version? <- I would expect this should be handled automatically and return a error message.

Read about System Restore. Try a restore to before the problem happened.

Back up your data. Even if you need to do a reformat, it will make your system like new again. I would prefer that to any possible "Mickey Mouse" things happening.
