    Windows xp home sp1:

I know that there is a file called "addressbook.js" file inside
    E:\program files\NS_7.2\chrome\messenger.jar\content\messenger\addressbook\addressbook.js

Jar files are just a compressed file and can be opened with external zip utility.
I do not use built in zip feature at all.

When I do a search for addressbook.js returns "not found "

any ideas on how to get the correct results ?
Have set display ALL files. Not really used to XP and really don't want to hack into the registry.

    TIA

    regards:captjlddavis

First, open any folder and click tools>folder options>view. Tick the line that says "show hidden files and folders ". Then try searching again. If that doesn't do it, download Agent Ransack and try using it to search for the file. I have no idea what happened when MS wrote the search tool for XP but they really messed up when they did it. It's quite lame and often misses files that Agent Ransack or any other search tool will find. I use Powerdesk instead of Windows Explorer. It comes with a find tool and I've experimented quite a bit with it. For some reason there seems to be an awful lot of files that I can find using Powerdesk's find tool, yet they don't show up when I use Windows native search tool. There's a free version of Agent Ransack so you got nothing to lose. ;)

    Thanks Zander,

I concur. I also do not use windows exploder for file management ( use Total Commander ) I assume Powerdesk is similar. I have experimented abit with AgentRansack -
I guess that it is the Nature of the Beast - M$

    Thanks for the input.

You're probably right about that. Actually, I've lost all confidence in XP's search tool. I never use it anymore. I only use Powerdesk's find tool. Did Agent Ransack find the file you were looking for?

    Zander,

Actuallly Total Comander found it and allows me to open it and such.
So much for exploder. I assume that Agentransack will also. I will give it shot, but I am sure that it will.

I guess I will have to delve a little deeper in AR......maybe someone more familiar with it can get it to do what I want......
and let me know HOW..... :)

If you have questions about it you could always start a new thread about AR in the "other software" forum. I know there's several people here who use it and I'm sure one of them could answer your questions.
