A friend of mine's laptop (Dell) had a problem.
Everytime they turn on the laptop will show C0000218 error msg says the software hive can't load or missing or not writable or missing.
I tried the microsoft article and restore the good copy of the registry and use the system restore to restore to the backup copy of the registry but everytime after the restore reboot the system it will boot into the blue screen again.

The only way I can boot up the windows xp is to either boot into safe mode or use the last know good configuration but once I reboot the system (or shut down and turn it on) it will result into the same blue screen.

Is there any way to figuer out why is it doing this?

I used malewarebytie's software to scan and removed some trojan and also used bitdefender to scan for virus and killed some virus.

    Now I am just stuck.

When boot with the last known good config it works till the next reboot.

    Anyone got any idea?

    Thanks in advance.
