The computer was working fine until one day I tried to start windows Xp home edition and it wouldn't load.

This is what happens when I turn on the computer.

We apologize for the inconvenice, but Windows did not load sucessfully. A recent software or hardware change might have caused this.

If a previous startup attemp was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was reset or if you aren't sure what happened chose:

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with networking
    Safe Mode with command prompt
    Last know good config
    Start windows normallly

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

When I try to start windows normally:

1st: a white line goes across the screen
2nd: the windows xp symbol appears
3rd: There is a black screen
    4rd: it says: G4force Xp M Bios...etc.
    5th: the computer beeps.

and then start boot up again.

When I try the last know good config:

1st: a white line goes across the screen
2nd: the windows xp symbol appears
3rd: the computer screen goes black....
4th: after a few minutes and computer boots up again.

Tried the safe mode but it wouldn't work.....

Not sure what the problem is?

    Thanks,

    Michelle

Keeping in mind that hardware is not my area of expertise by any stretch of the imagination, quite the opposite in fact. I normally avoid all but the simplest problems. The advice below should be considered being given by a "Beginner ". I just saw that this post has been checked out at least 16 times, three of which was myself, who started to type a response to your problem and then backed out...I couldn't make up my mind. I was torn between attempting to help versus feeling that you may be better off waiting for a member who deals with such. You still may want to go to the "Hardware" Forum where you may stand a better chance of a member who prefers and has the expertise to deal with these types of problems.

Keeping all of the above in mind, if you wish to see if we can figure this out see below for starters. If not, I will not be offended if you wish to update your post with a "Thank you but no thank you, I'd rather wait for a hardware or gforce video experienced member" or similar reply. I will totally understand.

    -----------
Have you tried going into cmos setup or bios and restoring default settings saving and exiting? Reboot.

When you say "Beeps" can you be more specific? Bios error beeps as in multiple or the standard bios beep indicating bios has loaded. How many beeps, long short etc. ?

Will wait for update to post as I am not sure if this is video (card, drivers etc.) related or memory/hardware related (ram, power supply, etc.).

    NOTES:If video card related...
Gforce cards have been known to be fussy in some cases where problems have been not ironed out. Some run into problems that require multiple shutdown/bootup attempts before the card finally kicks in.

Others have had to use the old "reseat video card" or "move to different slot" if pci.
