I would appreciate some help in troubleshooting a log in issue I am having with xp home edition service pack 1 on my Dell Dimension 8250 series desktop. When I try to log in to the system it automatically defaults to shutdown even after a restart or complete reboot. I have also tried the reinstallation CD FOR XP home edition service pack 1 to no avail. Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Try the solution offered here .....

Fix Windows XP Log On/Log Off Loop

Why have you not upgraded to SP2/3? - I'm sure you are aware that Windows Update requires SP2 to function - XP SP1 is open to all sorts of vulnerabilities and it is quite possible you have malware aboard.
