In Windows XP sp2 The' help and support' will not load.
I have performed article #888018 microsoft.
The result: before, a click would not show properties, now it will.
However the program will not open.
I am not sure I located the subkey, I used the tree to get: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
    Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

Go to this Kelly's Korner page. Scroll down to line 235 and in the left-hand column, click on "Restore Help and Support service" to download a small .reg file.

After you have the file saved to the hard drive, run it according to the directions at the top of the Kelly's Korner page.

If your antivirus objects, ignore it. The files from Kelly's Korner are safe.

Can't hurt to run the fix, might solve the problem.

MS-MVP Kelly Theriot has additonal notes that might help:

Start Menu/Help and Support doesn't work: Go to Start/Run and type in: helpctr -regserver

To reinstall Help and Support: Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right click and choose install. Have your CD handy.

Note: The folder is hidden by default. Go to Start/Run and type in: control folders. View: Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.

"Could not start the Help and Support Service on Local Computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found "

Download and double click to merge with your registry both fixes:

Restore Help and Support Service.: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/helpsvc.reg
Restore Help and Support Service Keys: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/helpsvcrestore.reg

Also, make sure that the Help and Support Service is running. Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. From there scroll down to Help and Support and make sure the service is set to Automatic and is Started.
