I've recently tried to add a new Maxtor 250GB ATA HD as a primary slave. The master is also a Maxtor ATA (80GB). Since that time, and after some not-so-thoughful changes, every time I boot/reboot WinXP Home runs the Hardware Setup Wizard for both my hard drives wanting to install a driver for them. When I run the Wizard, it tells me it cannot find the necessary software/file to install. I cancel it and look in the Device Mgr. There are no yellow exclamation points for them. It lists the drivers disk.sys, drvmcdb.sys, and PartMgr.sys under the Drivers Tab for both drives. I've tried deleting the Drives from the Device Mgr and it still keeps doing the same. Both drives are formatted & partitioned and have drive letters assigned and seem to work properly. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    Mahalo (Thanks),

Have you double checked the jumpers on the drives? If you are using 80 strand cables Cable Select should be OK, but if you are using 40 strand cables jumper the disks as Master and Slave. Coarse ribbed cable is a 40, fine ribbed cable is an 80.

Thanks for the quick reply, Pete. The cable is an 80 pin and the drives are both jumpered to Cable Select. Any more thoughts?
