    Hi all,

I have been having trouble getting torrents to work properly. I get a yellow smiley health indicator in Azureus - which means I cannot get remote connections - caused by a NAT problem. I have no router, just a cable modem (1.5meg). I use ZoneAlarm, but switched that off and XP Firewall is always set to off, though I have had it on in the past.

I am wondering if the Windows XP firewall is fully off, as I get this NAT error and also I installed Battle for Middle Earth this morning and it said "Windows Firewall is on (or detected) and you need to allow this game to access the internet" or something similar.

I checked and the XP Firewall is definatelty off, as was ZA.

    Any ideas?

    Hello

What may be happening is that as you shut ZA off, XP is enabling it's firewall.

The following is from another post of mine:

It is one way with the exception of the following "Programs and Services" by default - user has to unblock them at need:

These are in the Exceptions tab:
    File and Printer Sharing
    Msn Messenger
    Remote Assistance
    Remote Desktop
    UPnP Framework

In the advanced tab, a list of options concerning what kind of ICMP to allow, both incoming and out going and to configure reporting the size and type of connections the FW blocked or allowed.

So one way to see whether FW is on is to see if it's doing any logging: defined in the Advanced tab under Security logging, look at FW's log file C:\WINDOWS\pfirewall.log - opens with Notepad. To start it, check one or both of the logging options.

In the Exceptions tab - what's being blocked?

    Regards - Charles

If you first shut it off in the Security applet and then set that service to disabled in the services applet then no matter what, the xp firewall cannot turn itself back on.

Thanks guys. When I turn off ZA and check the Network Connection - it still says Windows Firewall is off. I have left it off and taken everything out of the Exceptions list. I stopped the service Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing.

    Still have the same problem.
