I am a great believer in Diskeeper Pro and have used it without problems on all my computers and those of others for a number of years.

However, on one of the computers I maintain - not my own, I was persuaded by the user, against my better judgement to run a boot time defrag with the 'Put all folders together on the volume' option selected. Since that day the computer will not shut down properly - only goes part way and the shutdown command has to be given again, 2x in total. Makes no difference whether Shutdown or Restart is selected.

I should add that I've used the 'Put all folders together on the volume' option on my m/c's without any problems.

Whilst not a major problem it it one I would like to solve. Any suggestions?

Just a thought. Or question. Your call.

By any chance has XP been installed more than once ?

ie: A repair install that did not go back into the existing folder.

I have not had a problem with XP but I did have the problem on a 98SE machine.

This was a fresh install on a new hard drive. Actually had the same problem on the old drive before it failed, hence my reluctance to run Diskeeper with the folders option enabled.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.
