    Hi,

Has anyone come across this proble?

Using Partition Magic, I created and formated 2 partitions, one for XP and other for 98. Activate the XP, hid the 98 and started XP installation. After copying all files and all that blah, blah, blah, it rebooted to continue the installation. After the initial menu it stopped with a black (not blue) screen saying that could not find the HAL.DLL. Rebooted to DOS and checked, HAL was there.

After trying 3 times, decide to FDISK /MBR the drive C, and let XP re-locate and re-format before copying the files. Everything went fine...

Does anyone know why this happened? Not a problem but I'm curious...

    Cheers!

Do you have a boot.ini? If so, it should report exactly where your system files are using an ARC path. It has to match your system exactly otherwise it won't boot.
