    Hi gals

Have XP Win running fine 6 months with no new hardware added. Suddenly it crashed (may not be hardware problem). It restart ok & ran for a few days, but crash came again.. This time went to safe mode to set sys to verify .. this then require restarting but... PC hang totally at aliadp.sys even at Safemode.Prompt.

Don't want to redo system, prefer to share this experience with readers to tinker through. As always will feed back if I find solution.

    Hello Fuzmic,

aliadp.sys does not get any responses from a Google search. Are you certain it is not aliagp.sys

    Matt
Edit: finding it hard to fit into the "gals" category :). My "guys" category usually seems to encompass both sexes. Sexism does not seem to be gone yet :)

    Hi guys
Matt sorry for the mixup of 1) sexes 2) aliagp.sys - what u want is not what u type.

Meanwhile I think I found the cause & probable the solution.
Prior to the crash, I was attaching a printer cable to the MBoard. I think I push a bit too hard & because the pc is old & loose like me, there may be some contact problems on the attached cards, probaby the sound card. I found this out when I try to do a repair with the bootable XP CD wherein it hang when selecting the window directory to repair.
When I gave all the attached cards a firm push, repair mode can be established.. and then I did a chkdsk /r it boot taking to about .5 hour. I feel it is not the repair that did the job but loose contact.

    What say u? Thanks anyway

    Well, that is good news.

Please though do not stop now with your old PC. Open it again and remove every RAM stick, and every PC adapter card.

With a gentle use of a clean pencil eraser, clean the contacts.

Before putting things back together, take the time to clean any dust on fans, heat sinks, or just in general. Make the inside clean.

Then reinstall all removed components. Do not close the box yet, boot and test first.
