Trying to do a re-install of XP from a Gateway OS cd.
I only get as far as the EULA and it won't go any further. I don't see any
accept or cancel boxes for the EULA, system just hangs....

I installed a new HD a week ago, installed XP and all seemed fine. Now,
during a normal bootup it shows that some files are missing (Hal.dll, nt__krnl.exe, and c:\windows\system32\system, maybe some others also(?).
Anyway, i boot with the XP cd inserted, press a key to boot from CD,
press "enter key" for a re-install and it hangs after the EULA is displayed..

    Any suggestions will be appreciated,

Test the new HD Clif, what make/model?

Also which SP version (if any) is on the Gateway OS CD?

I'll check the HD and get back.

Not sure of the SP #....

Booting from a utility program, I was able to copy 2 of the missing files (1 at a time) from a command prompt onto the HD but for a 3rd missing
file (windows\system32\system) I couldnt make a copy because it was in use. At least proves the HD is being seen.

I loaded Ubuntu and was able to see the Hd and navigate to any folder,
    the Hd is working.
The cd is "Version 1.1" .

Currently, i am wiping the HD and will try a fresh install.....

    thanks,

nothing on the EULA said what to do to continue past the EULA but
pressing the "F8" got me past it and continued the install.

    thanks for the help,

    XP doesn't want to finish

I have installed new WD HD and am trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro from CD.
It loads everything and gets to the disclaimer and asks to hit F8 to agree. Nothing seems to happen when I do but hitting ESC stops the process and I have to start over again. Why doesn't F8 work?

Please disregard, discovered have to use Flock to work key.
