I got this new computer a couple of days ago, and since then, i have installed quake 3 and half-life, and both cannot connect to internet servers in order to play them online. I do not know why this is, maybe something to do with XP's internet security. I have the latest version of half-life, and it works online on my windows 98 machine. Does anyone have an idea as to what i should do?

It could be a compatibility problem as both these games were written for Windows 95/98/NT.

Right click on the menu item for each game and check the properties and compatibility mode. As you say they would work with Windows 98 I would change it to that compatibility mode.

Are you getting any error messages that you can copy and paste to point us towards other possible solutions.

i've run both of those games in xp just fine. i don't think compatibility mode will change anything. that happened to a buddy of mine. i think xp had the firewall on for some reason and it blocked the ports the game needed. try making sure the firewall is off. that's about all i can think of.
