XP Home w/ sp2, all updates current
Shuttle XPC SG31 with 2.53 Core 2 Duo

    PART 1:
For the past 3-4 days when booting I've been getting multiple 'found new hardware' messages for the Texas Instruments IEEE 1394 Host controller. The two notification screens repeat rapidly for about a minute, then stop.

In the Event viewer I have about 32 of the following 'red x' items for each boot:
IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 0*, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

    * this number increments for each error

The slot issue is odd, as there's only one PCI-E slot in the PC.

Also, in Device Manager I have multiple 'yellow-dot-!' for the '1394 Net Adapter',
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)

though there's also an entry for the Generic Marvel Yukon 88E8056 Net Controller that is indicated as working properly.

    PART 2:
For the past two days the PC hangs at the XP splash screen, but when I hit the reset button, I can launch OK by choosing the 'start windows with last known good config...'

So is the issue possibly related to the IRQ settings? Does the BIOS manage them? There's an updated BIOS available from Shuttle, but I don't want to do that unless the change will likely have an effect...

    OTHER STUFF:
I reinstalled the Shuttle utilities and it had no effect...

I have no FireWire devices of any kind...

The other oddball item is that 3-4 days ago I noticed that the Windows clock was incorrect. I reset it with no issues. This was surprising as I had it set for auto updates...

    Big thanks in advance...

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

It might be due to the motherboard battery getting low. Get a replacement.

After that the BIOS might need to be set to "Default Settings ".
