I downloaded a spy program call xp anti spy. It seemed to work pretty well but recently I noted that my credit card had been uded 6 times in an unauthorized manner.
Whil I cannot tell how it happened I wondered if the anti spy programs do in fact cause more problems then they solve. I also run the free version of ad aware.

XP Anti Spy looks to be a legitimate program. Nifty too! AND Free!!
Nope! Read through a few of the posts here and you'll see alot of these PC's wouldn't even function without the use of them. I doubt that XP Anti Spy had anything to do with your credit card 'abduction'.

    Hello Jerry,

Certainly agree with Dave, the legitimate anti malware programs are a must.

There are always companies selling fake removal software that are at best benign and at worst introduce malware of their own, see the pinned thread at the top of this board - list of fake anti malware programs.

About xpAntiSpy specifically: It mainly changes some of XP's settings, some are annoyances - some are simply about not generating info to MS via error reports and the media player. One great option, for those that don't want it, gets rid of MSN messenger cleanly and easily. All these things can be done with a lot more time and hunting and pecking thru systems settings and the registry.

    Regards - Charles
