    Hi there

    I have a bit of a problem here ;)

I have 3 laptops that are to be shared amongst 20 users, I need to know how to make the XP look like a 2k for all the users the first time they log in, this can´t be done manually as I only know the department heads and not the seperate users (these can be found out but there must be an easiere way ;))

just to be clear this is how I have done on 1 user (myself)

rightclick My computer, choose properties, advanced, then accesing performance settings and choosing adjust for best performance)

this is what I want all users settings to be even when they log on for the first time.

    - if the "guide" is unclear it´s because I had to translate from danish so I´m not certain of the names of the menu´s, I am certain you experienced XP users knows what I am talkinga bout though ;)

Start > Control Panel > User accounts > Change the way users log on or off > take the tick mark out of "Show the welcome screen ".
    Restart.

excuse me but did you even bother to read my post?

    1. I want the people logging on the laptop the first time to see an standard 2K shell, not the fancy XP shell.

    2. as described above it is possible to adjust the shell to best performance, that too I want to enable as standard for first time users.

    Hi, Addlcov ~

If you are referring to to the classic Win2K logon, reboot provided the proper steps.

If you want the classic shell for the start menu and windows, go to the Group Policy Editor > Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components and configure the following for Classic:
    • Windows Explorer
    • Start menu and Taskbar
    • Control Panel > Display > Desktop Themes
Group Policy Editor is only in Pro and I am assuming you are using such.

    Yes I read your post.
As I understood, you wanted the Win2k logon type of screen, and not the fancy XP type. You did say "how to make the XP look like a 2k for all the users the first time they log in ".
What I posted is how you accomplish that.
Did you try it before posting back?
If you wanted the whole classic start menu, taskbar setup, then BruceKrymow provided that, but it's not what you asked for.

it was what I asked for if you read the part where I described how I would do it on 1 user manually, but nevermind problem solved ;)
