The virtual XP Pro machine inside W7 Pro has on launch begun to just show a black screen on start up.
I put in a password for XPMUser in the "Enter your credentials" box, which it seems to accept, and the "Windows XP Mode" window opens but it is black with an error report "The requested operation cannot be completed because the Terminal Connection is currently busy processing a connect operation".
This then after a while is replaced by the "Log on to Windows" window, and so it goes on.
I know Quicken 98 is not very popular, but I enjoy using it inside the VM, and would like access to it again.
Enabling or disabling integration features in VM makes no difference
Thanks in advance, as you guys are so good,
    Regards
    David D
Any instructions need to be fairly precise for me to follow.

Try deleting the Windows XP Mode.vsv file, then restarting XP Mode.

To find this file, in the Run command (WinKey + R) type: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines and click OK

If this doesn't work, try a clean boot of Windows, and see if that solves the problem. The clean boot article also contains steps to determine what is causing the problem.

Note that you need to have Hide extensions of known file types unselected in Windows Explorer to see the .vsv extension, but it is this file:

Thank you Arie, always nice to hear from you.
I typed the Run command and only came up with a screen, see attached, with no vsv file.
A clean boot of Windows is scaring me already,
    Regards

I had a wrong syntax, try again with %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines

    Thank you Arie,
I retyped the Run command, deleted the the vsv file and we are back to normal again. My favourite Quicken is available again.
I do spend some time trying to Google a solution, but when I run out of ideas, or nerve, I know where to go. I am learning all the time,
Once again Arie, very many thanks

You're welcome. I still have XP Mode running on an old laptop with Win7 installed, so I remembered that trick ;)
