WSUS Installation

I am new to server 2003. I have a domain setup in windows 2003 server with 30 clients. I want to install wsus in 2003 server. Plse let me know whether we require an internet connection for the same functioning ? Can I download the patches separately and use in WSUS server ? What is synchronization ? Whether synchronization with Micro Soft wsus server is required at least once to work the system?

You can do wsus without a internet connection, but you will need to syn the updates from a source that does have a internet connection.

So you could have a wsus server with no internet connection, but has access to a upstreem server somewhere that pushed the updates.

So in short, yes your case you would need a intenret connection.
