I have a Compaq Presario computer with Win 98 and
    350 MHz AMD-K6 Processor.
I bought an HP psc 950 4 in 1 machine (printer-
fax-scanner-copier) When I tried to install
the software I got 2 warning messages:

    (1) Processor does not meet min requirements.

    (2) Screen resolution must be set to 600 x 800.

I set the resolution to 600 x 800 and tried
to reinstall. This time only the 1st warning
appeared. The processor requirments on the
HP box say a 333 MHz Pentium processor.

I called HP support and they say it is calling
for an Intel Pentium procesor, not an AMD, but
continue to install. It should work.

Is there enough difference from an Intel to an
AMD processors to give me a problem?

After install can I set the resolution back to
640 by 480 or will I get problems? If the machine
is off I suppose I could set it back, but if
it is on will other programs be affected.

    Thanks, Jerry

AMD processors, for the purpose you describe, will work every bit as well as any Intel of the same rating.

This warning is either a short-sighted flub on the part of the software developer, or they are just in collusion with Intel. In my opinion, AMD processors are superior in that their performance is equal and they cost a lot less.

    AMD processors

    Jerry,

I also have an AMD 250 processor aand am very happy
with it for basic purposes -webbrowing mainly/
In a discussion with a more knowledable person who preferred Intel processors as he felt

1)the main users that used AMD were mainly gamers who demanded extra speed
2)AMD processors had a 1/2 higher failure rate due to
greater heat output involved in faster speeds

This is true for some hardware used in conjunction with AMD K6-II CPU's. Check the microsoft tech support site. If I was home, I'd send you a link, but you should be able to find this pretty quickly. Often manifests itself as a virtual device driver problem, VXD VMM error. There are some solutions available to work around the instruction archetecture, but quite often the best bet is to get a different scanner or whatever.

    ;)
