    Hi
I want to use a RW disk that already has some info burned. Should I be able to add to the disk or do I have to erase it each time I use it?
    Thanks
    Lewis

As long as you select Multisession in your burning software you can add to a CD-R or CD-RW until it is full. On the second and subsequent burn sessions select Continue multisession

The exact terminology may differ between burning software packages - those I quote come from Nero 5.5.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that once a CD-RW was formatted it would be treated just like a Floppy Drive. You could drag and drop or copy paste, etc. until it was filled up. Then reformat it, if desired, and repeat the process.

(Note the key here was if CD-RW was Formatted)

Absolutely correct if the CD-RW is formatted using InCd or similar, but for straightforward burning (no formatting) multisession rules :)

    PeteC, Understand.

But if memory(?) :D serves me correctly everytime a CD/RW medium is inserted I thought it asks if one wants to format the CD. That's where I was coming from.

Also I use either Roxio, or Nero (I have both Installed) and I only use a CD/RW as a Floppy. Just personal preference I guess.

Only if InCd is installed - I don't use it - many problems with InCd and XP in the early days :( Possibly InCd is incorporated into Nero 6 ? I still use 5.5

    No idea about Roxio.

Roxio will recognize if a RW has data on it and ask and has the option to "append" data to the RW, meaning it will read in the previous data and write out the original along with the new.

I also have Nero 5.5 and InCD in my Win 98 Machine and yes when CD/RW is inserted it asks to format the CD.(As we both stated)
I have Roxio and Nero (W/O InCD) in my WinXP Machine and here's what it does after I drag and drop data withmy doing no formatting on it.

What I was refering to was not the drag&drop part of Roxio - a seprate sub app in the current Roxio suite. What I was referring to was writing disk files (my backup folders) to DVD. I put multiple backups on one DVD appending the latest to my previous backups. I'm on my fifth disc now, backups go back to January.

BTW, I was never asked to format a disc, that may be because all I use is RW's, have never used an R. Also, music or video discs that I've created play both on the computer and my DVD player.

    Regards - Charles

    charlesvar, That's very interesting...Thanks. I think I learned something.
I use DVD/RW too as my Backup (Via D & D method) and use the DVD-R as a backup to the RW....learned from a horrible experience to double backup.

I had completely forgotten that one could use a DVD/RW just like any DVD-R or +R,..... must be getting old or is it older

    Hi all,
just to add on here, has any of you gentleman experimented with dual layer DVD my LiteOn burner is dual Format dual Layer and I have bought half a dozen dual layer disks at $AU 9.- still expensive, hence I have not used any yet.
I have Nero 6 installed bundeled with the LiteOn DVD burner and it caters for dual layer, but I am not sure if Nero will automatically recognice the dual layer disc and burn as normal or does it need setting up.
    any info would be great.
