    Hi....

    I am new person to this community and fresher in IT support team. Now I would like to know about the subnet masking, number of networks.... calculation and IP address. I hope, I will get the answer...

    For IPV4 it is based on the 4 octets of the IP address and the mask determines the class of the network and thereby the ratio between the number of servers and clients if you will. The Wiki might help explain it better. It is here.

    IPV6 is different, but not widely deployed yet.
