adaware found nothing, even after an update.

i think the "69.20.16.183" stuff is the culprit, just looking for confirmation.

    lots of popups, redirects, etc...

With all other windows closed, run HJT, scan, and remove the below entries.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com
    O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com

    O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch
    O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kernctl32] rundll32 kctl32.dll,initialize
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
** note - not malware but system sludge that you don't need at boot up.
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [kernctl32] rundll32 kctl32.dll,initialize

I'm not sure what the situation is with these entries but leave them alone unless someone else chimes in with details.
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\aklsp.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\aklsp.dll

O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\calsp.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\calsp.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\aklsp.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ntsmod] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntsmod.exe
** note - I can't find any information on this one so unless you know what it is, probably best to check it out. Look at the file properties on C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntsmod.exe and unless it clearly identifies the file's origin and you installed the app, I'd get rid of the entry and the file itself.

Search for any files on your system named kctl32.dll and delete them.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_01\bin\jusched.exe
The current release version is 4.2_06 so you really need to update. Leave the entry though since it will update when you get the new app version.
