Have XP but running Word/Office 2000.

Things working okay till a few days ago. When I write something in Word and save the doc, when I got back to it later to email using word, all that shows is computer code and some text.

I can send an attachment okay, but not regular email once my document has been saved in Word. Looks possibly like a format change but don't know.

I also do not understand why a saved Word document should have all the headers or toolbars of my browser. This has me stumped.
Once I save a Word document, I want it to remain that way and look like Word, not IE7.

    Thank You

My first response would be to suggest a Repair of Word (Help > Detect and Repair) and if that does not fix the problem I maybe stumped to offer any further suggestions. Give it a try.

    Have same setup. Works.

    Check
Word "“ Tools "“ Options "“ Save Tab "“ that documents are being saved as word files (*.doc) files.

(edit) btw - are you using Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook as e-mail?

    using outlook express

will try and thanks. using outlook express. I believe the problem might have started because I followed some instructions in a book on PC Annoyances, by Steve Bass, a computer writer who's pretty good.

What I did was change (I thought) the formating of a web page into Word minus the web format . I believe that's when the problem started but I wasn't able to undo. It also altered everything I have stored in Word, and I sure didn't expect that.

    re detect and repair

Hi Again Pete. Here's what I saw in a PC book:
"Paste the text, not the formatting "
Insert text using edit>Paste Special and click unformatted Text.
This is used, the book says, when you grab text or url from a web page and copy into a Word document. That way it says, you get only the text but "not all the formatting junk. "

I guess it looks like I got a whole lot more, cause till I followed those instructions I wasn't having any problems.

BTW I see no detect and repair.

Should be under Help - you may need to expand the menu by clicking on the chevrons at the bottom of the dropdown.

Other route is via Add/Remove Programs > MS Office > Change and select the repair or reinstall option. I would go for the latter.
