Worried about "In-place Upgrade"

    I'm having a lot of problems with Windows XP and I think I need to re-install, or do an "in-place upgrade" but I'm worried about doing that. Will I lose all the data on my PC if I do that?

    So my files SHOULD be unharmed if I do the inplace upgrade thing?
