Workstation name

Hi!
I have NT4 network on win95.I change one of workstation name and i coudn't get network,I got error about there is already workstation with the same name.But I don't have phisical workstation with the same name.

 

I'm not sure what exactly you mean when you say "I have NT4 network on win95 " but when you're told there is already a workstation by that name it is not lying. If you're joining an NT or 2000 computer to an NT or 2000 domain you might not have a computer on the network anymore by that name, instead there may be a computer account still in Server Manager (NT domain) or Active Directory User and Computers (2000 domain).

I use workgroup for set worstation and in server manager I see only servers and xp station.

 

Since you're in a workgroup you don't have to worry about domain computer accounts. Unless I'm missing something there is a computer on your network already by that name. Perhaps you can give us the exact setup of your network and which workstation you're getting the error on.

I have WINNT4 PDC and WIN95 and WIN98 and few XP on workstations.I have dhcp protocol .I use diffirent workstation name for set computer account and few time ago I start to change computer name exectly like user name who work on station.For login script I use Kixstart 4.11,so I did everything from script.In workstation I get a error about there is already computer name like these.I scan all my network and I didn't find nothing.I wrote script to find these machine-no result.Phisicly I don't have the machine with the same name.There is some bug.
I don't now where.

 

Just in case there is something wrong with the script I'd check each computer name by visiting each computer.

 

The script works fine.If problem with script, problem in all machine's.

 

I've found experience has taught me to look at all possible problems, starting with the most simple. In this case, I'd physically check the computer names on every workstation since that is way more simple than troubleshooting a script that is running on different OS's. You'll find that the Win9x OS's behave much differently than the NT/2000/XP OS's when it comes to network management among other things.
