The AARP computer columnist, Sandy Berger, has given a strong plug for Works 2002. She describes it as compatible with Windows 98, 2000, ME and XP. I have 98SE on a Dell desktop.
Has anyone tried Works 2002 by replacing existing programs with this one. I have, for example, Word 2000, Quicken 2000, and so forth. Comments would be appreciated. Thank you kindly.

I had Office 2000 on my old computer - typical installation: Word, Access, Excel, etc.

When I got my new computer it was loaded with Works 2002. In the past, Microsoft Works included a spreadsheet, database, and a word processor, but none were as sophisticated as Excel, Access, and Word - but good for the average user.

Works 2002 includes an address book, calendar, database, spreadsheet, portfolio, and it now includes Word instead of it's own word processor - at least that is the way my computer was loaded.

I was afraid to install my full version of Office 2000 because I noticed that the new computer had folders for Microsoft Office and some of the locations were different. I didn't think it would be a good idea to have two versions of Word on the same computer. So, I did a custom install of Microsoft Office and did NOT install Word. I am using the newer version of Word. But, I have not used any of the other Works programs because I prefer Excel and Access over the Works spreadsheet and database. I don't have a need for a calendar or portfolio.

Actually, I have had some problems with Word 2002. Sometimes it shuts down on me when I'm in the middle of something. So far, it has recovered my files, but once or twice, I lost changes to some files. It doesn't seem to be as stable as Word 2000.

If you have Word 2000, I don't think you need to change to Works 2002 unless you do not have a database and spreadsheet and would like to have those programs.

    Just my opinion.
